“Students have to change from behaving as passive recipients of the knowledge offered by the teacher to becoming active learners who can take responsibility for and manage their own learning.” (Black, 2004, p. 20).
My name is Kelsey MacLeod. I was born and raised in Fredericton NB and have experienced a wonderful education here at St. Thomas University. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from STU in May 2014, with a major in Music, a certificate of French Language Proficiency, and a minor in Psychology.
I am very passionate about music and French. From a young age, I started playing piano and singing. Over the years I have been involved in musical groups including STU Singers and the Fredericton Chamber Orchestra. During the last few years, I have had experience conducting, tutoring music, and teaching violin lessons. My pursuit of the French language however, started in high school and increased in university, leading to participating in the Explore program twice to study French. The 5 week immersion experience at université du Québec à Chicoutimi and then 5 weeks at Université Laval à Québec inspired me to pursue French as a teachable.
As a prospective elementary teacher, I hope to bring energy and optimism towards learning into the classroom. I want to teach directly to my students, making vital concepts in curriculum relevant to their daily lives. I also believe that no student should be left behind or unchallenged, and should learn at their pace. For this reason, I intend to have all students actively participating in the class differentiate my instruction according to their needs.
