FRENCH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE
I am passionate about the French language. I completed my first internship at New Maryland Elementary in a grade 5 Intensive French class.
On November 26, 2014 during my internship at New Maryland Elementary School, I taught the two grade 5 French Intensive classes a traditional Québec dance. We played a game of "Simon Says" (Simon dit) to review and learn the French vocabulary for the dance and then I taught the dance in little parts. Here is a picture of the students dancing while I accompany them on the fiddle.
Above are two samples of the Message du jour. One is from the unit we did on food and the other from clothes unit. During my internship at NMES I created one for each day. I would read it and explain any new words. Then we would read it together as a class and students would search for the sound of the day (e) (o) or (ɛ.)
We started the clothes unit (vêtements) in French Intensive in December during my internship at NMES. I found the song "Quand le Père Noël vient me visiter" on Youtube and had the students listen to it. They loved it and sang along every day. After singing the song (which describes what Santa Clause wears) I asked them what Santa Clause wears. It was amazing to see them improve and become more independent in their responses over the week.
